Halka: A Lightweight, Software Friendly Block Cipher Using Ultra-lightweight 8-bit S-box
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper presents the design of a lightweight, yet software friendly, block cipher. Most of the lightweight block ciphers are nibbleoriented as the implementation of a 4-bit S-box is much more compact than an 8-bit S-box. This paper uses a novel implementation of multiplicative inverse for 8-bit S-boxes using LFSR requiring only 138 gateequivalent. With this powerful scheme, we design a lightweight block cipher competitive with existing standards in terms of hardware gate equivalent first time using an 8-bit S-box.

Ultra-lightweight 8-bit Multiplicative Inverse Based S-box Using LFSR
Most of the lightweight block ciphers are nibble-oriented as the implementation of a 4-bit S-box is much more compact than an 8-bit S-box. This paper proposes a novel implementation of multiplicative inverse for 8-bit S-boxes using LFSR requiring only 138 gate-equivalent. It can be shown that if such S-boxes are adopted for the AES it takes less than 50 gate-equivalent per S-box in parallel imp...
متن کاملRECTANGLE: A Bit-slice Ultra-Lightweight Block Cipher Suitable for Multiple Platforms
In this paper, we propose a new lightweight block cipher named RECTANGLE. The main idea of the design of RECTANGLE is to allow lightweight and fast implementations using bit-slice techniques. RECTANGLE uses an SPnetwork. The substitution layer consists of 16 4×4 S-boxes in parallel. The permutation layer is composed of 3 rotations. As shown in this paper, RECTANGLE offers great performance in b...
متن کاملHummingbird: Ultra-Lightweight Cryptography for Resource-Constrained Devices
Due to the tight cost and constrained resources of highvolume consumer devices such as RFID tags, smart cards and wireless sensor nodes, it is desirable to employ lightweight and specialized cryptographic primitives for many security applications. Motivated by the design of the well-known Enigma machine, we present a novel ultralightweight cryptographic algorithm, referred to as Hummingbird, fo...
متن کاملThe Simon and Speck Block Ciphers on AVR 8-Bit Microcontrollers
The last several years have witnessed a surge of activity in lightweight cryptographic design. Many lightweight block ciphers have been proposed, targeted mostly at hardware applications. Typically software performance has not been a priority, and consequently software performance for many of these algorithms is unexceptional. Simon and Speck are lightweight block cipher families developed by t...
متن کاملRoadRunneR: A Small and Fast Bitslice Block Cipher for Low Cost 8-Bit Processors
Designing block ciphers targeting resource constrained 8-bit CPUs is a challenging problem. There are many recent lightweight ciphers designed for better performance in hardware. On the other hand, most software efficient lightweight ciphers either lack a security proof or have a low security margin. To fill the gap, we present RoadRunneR which is an efficient block cipher in 8-bit software, an...
